| In the late 1960's and early 1970's, for the
traveling teams, children competed in relays, long jump, shot-put, sprints, and longer
distances qualifying for both U.S. Regional and National competitions. In the late 80's
one of our girls won the National Postal one mile championship and another one qualified
for the finals of Colgate Women's Games for a seventh consecutive year. As recent as 1996,
a male member of Club competed in the Olympic Trials in the 3000M
steeplechase and missed
qualifying by just 400th of a second. He will also compete in the
Olympic Trials in
Sacramento in July 2000. In September 1979, the
Track portion of the Athletic Club decided to re-organize and we became
known as The
College Point Road Runners Track Club responsible for raising our own funds through the
organization of races and the help of the private sector. The Club was Incorporated, as
required by the State of N.Y., as a non-profit organization.
We are members of USAT&F,
MAC, and the New York Road
Runners Club (NYRRC) |
